What to See and Do Around Burlingame

 Walk along the scenic San Francisco Bay Trail adjacent to the bay and the Embassy Suites. You will see sweeping views of the South Bay, the East Bay cities of Oakland and Alameda and the San Francisco skyline.

 Downtown Burlingame

By Car:  Take Anza Boulevard west, turn right onto Airport Blvd., left onto Broadway Ave.  You will see a Caltrain station. This begins the Broadway Ave. retail area.  To continue on to the Burlingame Ave. retail area, take a left on California Dr., and go 12-15 blocks. There will be a second Caltrain station at Washington Park; turn left or right onto Burlingame Avenue. The shopping district is filled with interesting shops and restaurants.

By Trolley:  The City of Burlingame sponsors a free trolley which stops at the hotel and takes you to downtown Burlingame every day except Sunday. The hotel has a map of the trolley route and timetables. 

The Burlingame Avenue CalTrain Station, located on California Drive, is a historic landmark. You may board trains to San Francisco here.

Light Rail (BART): Take the hotel's free shuttle to San Francisco International Airport. There you will take Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) into San Francisco. Call BART 7 days a week for specific information (see below), or visit their website to see transit maps, fares, and timetables (these are also posted in each station) at http://www.bart.gov/index.asp.  Be sure that when you return to the hotel, that you take only the San Francisco International Airport-bound train. By Car:  Take Anza Blvd. to Highway 101 north into San Francisco. Other methods: The hotel shuttle runs every 20 minutes to the SF Airport where you can take SamTrans buses into San Francisco or the shuttle has a drop-off at the Caltrain station. CalTrain stops at the train terminal at Townsend Street in San Francisco. Please call the numbers at the end of this document for route numbers and schedules.

Stanford University: Located between San Francisco and San Jose in the heart of Silicon Valley, Stanford University is recognized as one of the world's leading research and teaching institutions. Pick up a self-guided tour map and walk around campus at your leisure, or take a one-hour, student-led Campus Walking Tour at 11am or 3:15pm. Suggested sights to see: Hoover Tower, Memorial Church, Cantor Arts Center and the Hanna Honeycomb House designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Go south on 101 to Embarcadero Road. Travel three miles. Embarcadero Road becomes Galvez Street when you cross El Camino Real. Stay in the left lane and continue past the stadium. The entrance to the Visitor Center Lot is on the left just beyond Nelson Road.

NASA Ames Exploration Center: Experience NASA technology and missions first hand; open Tuesday-Sunday 12-4, free admission; 650-604-6274 or 650-604-6497; Moffett Field; Take 101 south, Exit Moffett Blvd./NASA Parkway, at the stop light, turn right, as you approach Moffett Field, turn right at the stop sign before the main gate, The center is on the right, proceed behind the dome for parking.

The Computer History Museum explores the history of computing and its ongoing impact on society and is home to the largest collection of computing artifacts in the world. Wednesday-Sunday, 10-5; 650-810-1010; 1401 Shoreline Blvd, Mt. View; take 101 south exit Shoreline Blvd, turn left onto Shoreline, cross through intersection, museum on right.
